Hi Christopher,

I'm a grad student at the University of Maryland and have recently changed my field of research from human to monkey. My new adviser, Arash Afraz, introduced me to MWorks and suggested I contact you to better navigate the materials available on the website.

I'd be grateful if you could kindly give me some instruction/advice on the best strategies to start learning MWorks and how to proceed most effectively.

Also, if there are any video tutorials that you could point me to that would be great!

Best,
Minoo

    Hi Minoo,

You can find all the available resources via the MWorks Project web site. There is one screencast there; while rather old, it's still a good demonstration of the basics. I also recommend looking at the knowledge base, which has articles describing installation and initial setup, and the component reference, which describes the available building blocks for MWorks experiments.

Unfortunately, we don't have a "getting started" tutorial. Generally, folks learn MWorks by starting with an existing experiment (typically provided by a lab colleague) and then modifying it to suit their needs. Alternately, if you're developing a new protocol, you can send me an outline of the task you want to perform, and I'll try to put together a basic MWorks experiment that accomplishes it. From there, you can adjust and fill things out as needed.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for your reply.

I actually haven't completely moved to Arash's lab yet and will start in August. So, I was just trying to educate myself before working with lab's experiments. Nevertheless, I find your advice helpful and will just start from what's available on the website.

I'll contact you again once I'm in the lab and have access to the other experiments and will ask for your help.

    Best,
    Minoo
